i recently had a dinner date with mY good ol’ buddy munki (aka michael). he now lives in LA and travels a lot for work. it brought him to the UK this month and seizing the opportunity, we made an evening of it over good food in london.
i posted back in september about mY experience at coya and how there are cheaper peruvian restaurants out there serving up ceviche at the same high standards. well andina based in shoreditch, london is one of them.
i can’t remember what we ordered now but andina do like to experiment with ingredients so we had interesting ceviches with the likes of figs, yuzu, samphire, blueberries and well, you get the idea. their menu changes quite regularly so expect something new every time. munki was very impressed by how fresh it all tasted and it definitely puts plain sashimi to shame even though there is nothing wrong with sashimi. ceviche is just more exciting! if you have been keeping up to date with mY posts then you’ll know i love cheese and especially mac n’ cheese! they had their own take of it on the menu and made it spicy – love!
it doesn’t look like a lot of food but seafood is quite rich and filling. with room for dessert (always!), i ordered the caramel eclairs. by this point, i was ready for bed #foodcoma and munki wouldn’t help finish it so gluttony got the best of me.
the ambiance in andina is underground and dark. simple decor and excellent service. it’s great for a first date and doesn’t break the bank either. you can enjoy a pleasant conversation and nibble on food. the idea is that the dishes are made for sharing so what better way to enjoy good company and good food all at once.
